The payment description or reference is required when creating a transfer, and the allowed format depends on the rail you choose. The system validates it as the transfer is created.
SEPA
Between 6 and 140 characters; letters, numbers, spaces and the symbols . - / ( ) only.
Possible errors:
- "For SEPA transfers, the description must be at least 6 characters."
- "…cannot exceed 140 characters."
- "…only alphanumeric characters and . - / & are allowed."
ACH / ACH Same Day
At least 1 character; letters, numbers and spaces only. Prismapay sets no maximum, but the ACH network may truncate very long text.
Possible error: "For ACH transfers, only alphanumeric characters are allowed."
Wire
At least 1 character, at most 140; letters, numbers, spaces and line breaks (Fedwire standard).
Possible error: "For Wire transfers, the description cannot exceed 140 characters."
SWIFT
No automatic format validation applies, because the operation is manual.
